4. Straus (1994) argues that spanking, hitting, or slapping a child legitimates and condones the use of violence to deal with frustration and settle disputes. He further states that spanking correlates with a crime outside the home, including self-reported delinquency, arrest, and homicide. Although these are the extremes, are there any instances where spanking is OK? Can you enforce behavior and consequences to a child without physical actions?
